Behlau Elementary School
Bobbye Behlau, the school’s namesake, was a long time educator and administrator in Northside ISD. Her commitment to NISD did not falter after her retirement. She wrote the District’s history and co-founded the NISD School Museum Association. Located on the far northwest side of the district, the almost 20 acres designated for the new NISD elementary school was home to an abundance of mountain laurels. The site was deep and narrow with a significant slope. Utilizing the slope to enhance the flow of the facility for its 800 students and 100 faculty, KNRG Architects incorporated three levels on the first floor of the building. Behlau Elementary School was the first NISD school to include an outdoor classroom near the science room to encourage student participation in outdoor studies.
