Rawlinson Middle School

Ed Rawlinson Middle School’s namesake was NISD Associate Superintendant for twenty years and the Superintendant for seven years. Mr. Rawlinson’s policies earned NISD Recognized District status in Texas.  He was instrumental in the formation of four magnet schools: Health Careers, Business Careers, Communication Arts and Sunset (now Excel Academy.)  Home to 1,200 students, Rawlinson’s academic areas are divided into grade levels.  Each level has science classrooms and proximity to computer labs.  The administration offices and the library are situated between the two classroom wings.  To keep noise levels reasonable for academic learning, the Fine Arts programs, Shop areas and gymnasiums are located at the rear of the facility.  The academic and electives areas are positioned to create an interior courtyard including a stage and grassy seating.  Adjacent to the Cafetorium is a courtyard with pavers and trees giving students an outdoor lunch space.
